After spending 17 years working a traditional 9 to 5 job, Gary saved diligently with the dream of owning a restaurant. But the turning point came during a deeply personal chapter in his life. While visiting Texas to support his mother during her battle with breast cancer, Gary searched for a familiar comfort Philly cheesesteaks.

What he found instead was disappointing.

The cheesesteaks lacked authenticity, flavor, and the essence of Philadelphia street food. That moment sparked something bigger than frustration it revealed an opportunity. With encouragement from his family, Gary made the bold decision to relocate and bring real Philly flavor to Houston.

On October 12, 2025, a devastating fire nearly ended everything for Philly Boyz Cheesesteaks. For many businesses, that could have been the final chapter.

With support from the community, along with sheer determination and sacrifice using credit cards, loans, and personal savings the team rebuilt from the ground up. After three incredibly challenging months, they reopened on January 25, stronger than ever.

This moment didn’t just define the business it proved its heart.
